This is the first year we have planted a garden and so far we have really enjoyed it. We started back in April growing cucumbers, tomatoes, jalapenos, green peppers, and strawberries in several 5 gallon buckets. However, that was short lived and we quickly needed to transplant everything to the ground. Once everything was transplanted we decided to plant some onions as well.
Over all we have had fairly good luck. We have definitely learned a few lessons on what NOT to do next year. Such as, be aware of spacing or the cucumbers and tomatoes will swallow everything up.
We currently have a steady supply from 7 tomatoes plantes, which we eat as quickly as they ripen, YUM!, 3 jalapenos plantes, and 1 cucumber plant. We haven’t pulled any onions yet, but we may soon. The 3 strawberry plants were not a hit this time around. Strawberries would grow a little bit and then rot. As for the green peppers, our dog Riley, decided he wanted them all to himself. They never really had a chance to grow, as the crazy dog ripped the vines right out of the ground and chewed on them like they were sticks. Thankfully he hasn’t investigated the rest of the garden. Hopefully he doesn’t get any grand ideas either :)
I wish I could grow and pick fresh fruits and veggies all year round!
